Risk warning facts & sources

These are the real-world facts shown in the risk warning before a player sells an asset or takes another risky action. Every one of them needs a cited source and a clinical sign-off.

An unsigned fact is NOT published — the check is in the data layer, not just the interface.

The matching rule: each risky action needs at least one signed-off fact before that action can go live. A fact with an empty source field cannot be saved as publishable and cannot enter the review queue.

You are in read and sign-off mode. Writing and editing facts sits with the content admin. If the wording needs changing, send it back with notes rather than editing it yourself — that is what keeps a clean record of who wrote it and who approved it.

F-028 · "Quit work to keep playing" action

v3 · signed 25 Jul · Dr A Brennan

"9.4% of ACT adults sit at some level of gambling risk on the PGSI scale. Losing a steady income is one of the things that pushes people into a higher risk group."

F-026 · "Quit work to keep playing" action

sent 24 Jul · Sam Okafor

"Leaving work removes income and the daily structure that can help interrupt repeated gambling."

Source: Productivity Commission — Gambling, inquiry report no. 50

This would be the second fact on that action. F-028 is already live, so the action stays published either way.

F-033 · cooldown screen

sent 25 Jul · Sam Okafor

"Only a minority of surveyed online bettors knew about the national self-exclusion register."

Source: ACT Gambling and Racing Commission — BetStop awareness survey

Shown during a cooldown week rather than before a risky action, so read it against the cooldown wording as well as against the source.

F-029 · "Spend the family savings" action

signed 21 Jun · Dr A Brennan

"When shared household money goes on gambling, the harm reaches people who never placed a bet — partners, children, parents."

Family asset — permanently lost There is no restore button anywhere, including in the staff area. The fact shown alongside it has to say so plainly.

F-024 · intended for "Borrow from friends"

v2 · sent back 25 Jul · Dr A Brennan

"Borrowing from family is often the step just before a person loses the support network they would need later."

Source: Australian Gambling Research Centre (AIFS) — Gambling harm and relationships

Sent back with the note: "The wording blames the player. Rewrite it to describe the consequence, not to judge." F-025 keeps serving that action in the meantime.

F-027 · intended for "Take a high-interest payday loan"

draft · Sam Okafor

"Interest on short-term payday lending can run far above the caps that apply to mainstream credit, and it compounds faster than most borrowers can repay."

Source field is empty — the figures have not been traced back to a report.

Because there is no source, this draft cannot be saved as publishable and the submit button is disabled in the data layer. As a result, the "Take a high-interest payday loan" action cannot go live.
